Cross won against Hilton Head Christian Academy last Wednesday with 20 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Cross put the hurt on the Whale Branch Warriors with a sharp 20-5 win. Considering the Stingrays have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Cross got a massive performance out of Alondra Vasquez, who scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Liz Odom, who scored a run and stole four bases while going 2-for-2.
Cross hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whale Branch struck out seven times.
Cross pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for Whale Branch, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Coming up, Cross will venture away from home to challenge Bluffton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Whale Branch, they will host Lake Marion at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake Marion has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17 runs per game on average), something Whale Branch will no doubt try to take advantage of.
