Eagle Pass is headed into the game having just suffered their closest loss since February 21st on Tuesday. They fell just short of Central Catholic by a score of 7-5.
Jay Jacquez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Alex Ruiz was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. DJ Aranda was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Calallen came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Cottonpickers 20-1. Considering the Wildcats have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Collier Carroll tossed a big game, striking out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Blake Quinn, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reese Rusher, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Calallen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Robstown only posted a batting average of .118.
Eagle Pass dropped their record down to 7-7-2 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Calallen, their victory bumped their record up to 18-2.
