The Floyd Central Jaguars pushed their score all the way to 87 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Landrum 91-87. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Thursday (56), Floyd Central still had to take the loss.
Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Braden Moore, who almost dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists. The matchup was Moore's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ronnie Samons, who scored 23 points.
Even though they lost, Floyd Central were working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Landrum's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Franklin Davis, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Davis has scored at least 25% of Landrum's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Benett Edwards, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Floyd Central has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Landrum, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
Floyd Central will finish 2023 at home by hosting Seton LaSalle at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Seton LaSalle will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 204th in Pennsylvania, while Floyd Central is ranked 48th in Kentucky). Landrum's road trip will continue as they head out to face Spartanburg Christian Academy at 8:30 p.m. on December 28th. Spartanburg Christian Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
