Baseball Recap: Mathews' Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Mathews had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Northampton Yellowjackets as they made off with a 13-1 victory. Considering the Blue Devils have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jordyn Cosby was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Mathews: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Blake Hunley, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Mathews always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northampton only posted an OBP of .280.

Mathews' record is now 9-7. As for Northampton, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Coming up, Mathews will head out to challenge West Point at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pointers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.31 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Northampton, they will be playing at home against Arcadia at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
