Elkhorn has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Hastings Tigers at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. Elkhorn will be strutting in after a win while the Tigers will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Saturday, Elkhorn didn't have too much trouble with the Falcons at home as they won 60-41. Given Elkhorn's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Falcons are ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elkhorn's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Petersen, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Luke Howard, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Hastings was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 58-53 to the Bulldogs. Hastings has not had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Elkhorn's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2. As for Hastings, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.
Everything went Elkhorn's way against the Tigers in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the Antlers made off with a 65-45 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Elkhorn since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
