Softball Recap: Mt. Eden Wins Going Away Against Piedmont

Mt. Eden was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Piedmont on Tuesday. Mt. Eden was the clear victor by a 12-1 margin over Piedmont. The result was nothing new for the Monarchs, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Jasmine Cruz and Shelby Newcomb did most of the damage at the plate: Cruz scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Newcomb went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that Newcomb hit this season. Milania Hernandez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Mt. Eden always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mt. Eden is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Piedmont now has a losing record of 2-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Eden will face off against Arroyo at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Eden's pitchers better be ready for this one: Arroyo has averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Piedmont, they will challenge Hayward at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
