The Mackay Miners will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sho-Ban Chiefs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Friday, Mackay took a serious blow against North Gem, falling 61-34. Mackay was down 58-24 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ruger Nicholls, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaizer Summers, who scored five points.
Mackay struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Sho-Ban's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight defeat. They were dealt a 78-38 loss at the hands of Watersprings.
Mackay now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Sho-Ban, they dropped their record down to 7-9 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Mackay against Sho-Ban in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 80-45 victory. Will Mackay repeat their success, or does Sho-Ban have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
