On Monday, the Parkside Eagles faced the School Without Walls Penguins in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Parkside walked away with a 73-61 win over School Without Walls. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Semaj Marshall continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 23 points. Markeese Coles was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
School Without Walls' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paul Joire, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Joire is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tahkari Bates, who scored 16 points along with two blocks.
Even though they lost, School Without Walls were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Parkside pushed their record up to 12-7 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for School Without Walls, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Parkside will challenge Thurgood Marshall Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Thurgood Marshall Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for School Without Walls, they will head out on the road to square off against McKinley Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. McKinley Tech is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.7 points per game.
