The Lyon County Lyons will head out to challenge the Ballard Memorial Bombers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Lyon County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Fort Campbell, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Lyons' pitchers stepped up to hand the Falcons a 16-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Lyons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Lilly Perry made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Perry was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Courtney Collins was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Emma Brasher also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
Lyon County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Campbell struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Ballard Memorial got the win against Carlisle County last Tuesday by a conclusive 11-0. Considering the Bombers have won four games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Lyon County, Ballard Memorial also got a great game from a two-way player: M Bohde. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Bohde has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on J Riggs, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. A Alexander was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
The win got Ballard Memorial back to even at 4-4. As for Lyon County, their record now sits at 3-5.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lyon County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Ballard Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Lyon County's way against Ballard Memorial in their previous meeting back in May of 2018, as Lyon County made off with a 7-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lyons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
