The Chicago Christian Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Marian Central Catholic Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Chicago Christian's win against Aurora Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Knights had just enough and edged out the Eagles 10-9. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Madi Hamilton, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Abby Moro, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Marian Central Catholic came tearing into Monday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 4-1 win over the Knights.
Christine Chmiel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lina Conner was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Bailey Keller was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Marian Central Catholic pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Chicago Christian, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-11 and their overall record up to 3-18.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Chicago Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Marian Central Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Chicago Christian couldn't quite get it done against Marian Central Catholic when the teams last played on Monday as they fell 4-1. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
