The Grapeland Sandies will head out on the road to face off against the San Augustine Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Two weeks ago just wasn't the day for Grapeland's offense. They were beaten by Garrison 58-0. While losing is never fun, Grapeland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 862nd, while Garrison is ranked 253rd).
Meanwhile, after soaring to 34 points the game before, San Augustine were a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 58-10 loss at the hands of Garrison. San Augustine was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-10.
Grapeland are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.7 points per game. As for San Augustine, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Grapeland against San Augustine in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 50-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Grapeland since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
