Baseball Recap: Bellevue West Starts Season with Victory Against Norris

Bellevue West gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Norris Titans. The Thunderbirds haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Drew Grego was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Brayden Woodard tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Zack Pinneo, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Bellevue West is set to challenge their familiar foe Elkhorn South at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Norris will square off against rival Beatrice at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
