Liberty has gone a perfect 10-0 against Sierra recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Hawks will look to defend their home field against the Chieftains at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Liberty had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt Yosemite on Friday. The Hawks never let the Badgers get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. Winning may never get old, but the Hawks sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Macie Webster looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Liberty got a massive performance out of Leilah Uriarte, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI Uriarte has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ari Aguayo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.
Liberty kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Sierra had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past the Eagles 11-1.
Abby Bays was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Dixie Dow, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Liberty's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.2 runs over those games. As for Sierra, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Liberty has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. However, it's not like Sierra struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Liberty took their win against Sierra when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-0 score. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chieftains turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
