Monroe County extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 10-12-1. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clinton County Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-9 back in March.
Briar Bourque made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brison Nuckols, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
As for Clinton County, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.
On Clinton County's side, Drake Thrasher made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Thrasher has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Caleb Thrasher and Zack Poore did most of the damage at the plate: Caleb got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Poore went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Chayse Perdue was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
While Monroe County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
