Baseball Recap: Pensacola Has No Trouble Against Gulf Pointe Latin

Pensacola never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on the Gulf Pointe Latin Gladiators with a sharp 15-0 victory. Considering the Tigers have won seven matchups by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Rupert Sproles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over four innings pitched. He has become a key player for Pensacola: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least ten strikeouts, but 6-8 otherwise. Sproles was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, AG Javar Floyd was a standout: he scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was CHRISZAVEN Jones, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Pensacola always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gulf Pointe Latin only posted an OBP of .133.

Pensacola pushed their record up to 9-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Gulf Pointe Latin, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coming up, Pensacola will square off against Atmore Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.3 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Gulf Pointe Latin, they will be playing at home against L.E.A.D. Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
