AAAA Region 5 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Trey Chivers of Carrollton ran for the longest rushing play in AAAA Region 5 this season against Fayette County last week. Chivers ran for 87 yards on the play and finished with 158 on the day as his team bested the Tigers.
Sandy Creek extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Troup County, 48-10. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Sandy Creek's dynamic duo of Cole Garvin and Demarre Kitt proved tough for the Tigers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Garvin threw for 135 yards and one touchdown and Kitt had 43 yards receiving. Kyle Wilson helped Sandy Creek's passing attack out by catching two balls for 43 yards.
Chip Walker's team's Garvin and Kitt have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Garvin has thrown for 1023 yards this season, while Kitt, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 18 catches for 347 yards. Carrollton's Chivers leads the league in rushing yards with 520.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Patriots take on Shaw. Sandy Creek has allowed 44 points this season, while the Raiders have given up 67. The Patriots allowed 10 points last week as they bested Troup County.
