The Alameda Pirates will square off against the Severance Silver Knights at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Alameda came up short against D'Evelyn on Monday, falling 3-0. The Pirates have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
While Alameda was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into D'Evelyn's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-6, 25-17, 25-18.
Meanwhile, Severance had already won 12 in a row and they went ahead and made it 13 on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Mountain Lions with a sharp 3-0 victory.
The 3-0 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 27-25, 25-22, 27-25.
Alameda better focus on containing Zeke Wawrzyniak and Matt Zenger as the pair were huge in Severance's win. Wawrzyniak had 12 digs and three assists, while Zenger had 12 kills, ten digs, and two aces. That's the most kills Zenger has posted over his last six matchups.
Severance pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Alameda, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Alameda hasn't let much over the net this season, having averaged 4.2 blocks per game. It's a different story for Severance, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 blocks. Given Alameda's sizable advantage in that area, the Silver Knights will need to find a way to close that gap.
