It was a good run, but the St. Anthony's Friars unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Sunday. They took a 63-45 bruising from Iona Prep. While losing is never fun, St. Anthony's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Gaels are ranked 14th).
St. Anthony's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nicolas Vieux, who scored seven points. Another player making a difference was Xavier Bala, who scored five points along with two steals.
St. Anthony's defeat dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Iona Prep, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Anthony's will challenge the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Iona Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against the Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Cardinal Hayes' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matchups.
