The Rutland Hurricanes won the last time they faced the Academy for Classical Education Gryphons, and things went their way on Friday too. Rutland had just enough and edged the Gryphons out 47-45. The win made it back-to-back wins for Rutland.
Among those leading the charge was Xavier Taylor, who scored 19 points. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Elijah Brooks, who scored eight points.
Academy for Classical Education lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kaleb Scarbary, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Kanyin Oni was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine blocks.
Even though they lost, Academy for Classical Education were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. This was only their 12th loss (out of 17 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Rutland has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. As for Academy for Classical Education, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-16.
Rutland will head out on the road to take on the Cherokees at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Academy for Classical Education, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. Southwest is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
