The Firebaugh Falcons will take on the Hoover Tornados at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Firebaugh has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Last Thursday, Firebaugh didn't have quite enough to beat Chadwick and fell 6-5.
Joanna Vasquez and Giselle Maravilla stepped up to the plate in a big way. Vasquez scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2, while Maravilla scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Samantha Ayala also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Hoover came tearing into Saturday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Warriors 19-9. The Tornados might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Evelyn Ortiz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Haylee Malagon and Hannah Parker did most of the damage at the plate: Malagon scored five runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4, while Parker scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Parker has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times she's played. Anahit Kazaryan was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Firebaugh's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Hoover, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Firebaugh has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .535. However, it's not like Hoover struggles in that department as they've averaged .610. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Firebaugh's way against Hoover in their previous matchup back in February, as Firebaugh made off with a 15-5 victory. Does Firebaugh have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hoover turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
