Baseball Game Preview: Clawson Trojans vs. Capac Chiefs

The Clawson Trojans will take on the Capac Chiefs at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Clawson is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Fitzgerald 22-3 on Friday. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Elliott Groves and Jackson Hein made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Groves tossed two innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Hein tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Groves has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Groves got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Hein got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs. Those two runs gave Hein a new career-high.

In other batting news, Trent Stephan was incredible, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shane Dunlap, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Clawson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fitzgerald only posted an OBP of .400.

Meanwhile, Capac waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Crusaders as they made off with a 12-1 win.

Clawson's victory bumped their record up to 15-6. As for Capac, the win got them back to even at 5-5-2.

Clawson came out on top in a nail-biter against Capac in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Chiefs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
