Clayton walked away with a 73-60 win over Northern Nash on Saturday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Clayton was led to victory by Justice Mitchell and Andrew Grimes. Mitchell scored 24 points along with six rebounds, while Grimes scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and six blocks. The match was Mitchell 's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Qua'shaun Williams was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six assists and three steals.
Clayton is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Northern Nash, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clayton and Southeast Raleigh will face off at 7:45 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Southeast Raleigh's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games. As for Northern Nash, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Franklinton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklinton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 388th, while Northern Nash is ranked 139th).
