Jeremiah Wilson and Marquese Jones provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Fernandina Beach. The connection went for 68 yards, the longest such play in 5A District 4 this season.
Ponte Vedra extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Episcopal, 42-3. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Sharks.
Matanzas's dynamic duo of Wilson and Jones proved tough for the Pirates to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wilson threw for 181 yards and three touchdowns and Jones had 126 yards receiving. Stefan Tucker helped Matanzas' passing attack out by catching two balls for 33 yards.
Cole Mazza was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 118 yards as Ponte Vedra defeated Fernandina Beach. Teammate Matt Deegan added to the ground attack by rushing for 92 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Deegan and Mazza Mike Lloyd's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Deegan leads the league in passing with 657 yards, while Mazza has rushed for 691 yards this season. Matanzas' Jones leads the league in receiving yards with 233 on 10 catches.
A big matchup in 5A District 4 this week will be when the Sharks take on Palatka. Ponte Vedra is currently in first, while the Panthers are in fourth.
There should be lots of points scored when the Sharks and Palatka face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Ponte Vedra comes in having scored 174 this season, while Willie Offord's team has scored 151. The Sharks scored 42 points last week as they beat the Eagles.
Creekside moved up to 170 from 215 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league.
