Softball Recap: Westside Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Indian Land, Westside was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Carolina Academy Trojans an 8-0 shutout.

Jazelyn Robinson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shelby Compton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Jordan Kirkus was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

Westside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Westside's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Carolina Academy, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Westside is headed away from home for the first time to square off against Daniel at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Westside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Carolina Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Powdersville at 6:00 p.m.
