Basketball Recap: Levi Samuel's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Community Christian over Faith Christian

If Community Christian was riding high fresh off their 52-29 takedown of Spring Baptist Academy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Community Christian Lions fell just short of the Faith Christian Saints by a score of 53-50 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Lions have suffered since November 28, 2023.

Community Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Levi Samuel, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 19 rebounds. Samuel is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Ben Samuel was another key player, putting up 17 points along with six assists and three steals.

Even though they lost, Community Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Faith Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jayden Avila, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. That's the most boards Avila has posted since back in February of 2024. Ruben Triana also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Community Christian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Faith Christian, their record now sits at 5-7.

Community Christian will face off against True North at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Community Christian is facing True North at the right time seeing as True North is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Faith Christian has already played their next game (against Still Creek Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
