Central Cambria is 2-7 against Somerset since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Red Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Central Cambria is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Central Cambria came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 6-0 to Penn Cambria. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Red Devils were not able to get on the board.
Owen Harringer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Grady Snyder made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
Meanwhile, Somerset entered their tilt with Greater Johnstown on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 4-1.
Garrett Reese spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cole Lucas, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Callen Miller was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double.
Somerset pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Central Cambria, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Central Cambria hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Somerset struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Central Cambria skirted past Somerset 9-8 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
