Football Recap: Jackson Cowper's Menacing Defense Leads Union City over Cambridge City Lincoln

If Cambridge City Lincoln wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Union City, they should've done a better job of containing D'Shaun Ware. The Indians breezed past the Golden Eagles to the tune of 92-6 on Friday with plenty of help from Ware, who rushed for 125 yards and four touchdowns, and also picked up 150 receiving yards and three TDs. Union City is 2-1 when Ware posts 80 or more receiving yards, but 0-4 otherwise.

Gavin Elmore was another key player, rushing for 107 yards and one score on only five carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 65 yards.

Union City didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jackson Cowper, Ware, and Logan Besser picked up one apiece. Cowper got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Union City, adding 30 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ware, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

The win made it two in a row for Union City and bumps their season record up to 2-5. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 15.55 yards per carry in those games compared to only 2.82 in the others. As for Cambridge City Lincoln, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.
