The Jamestown Muskies will venture away from home to challenge the Saegertown Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Jamestown has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with 19 straight defeats, while Saegertown will come in with 11 straight victories.
Jamestown is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of Youngsville by a score of 16-14 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Muskies have suffered since March 24th.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Saegertown faced off against Cochranton on Thursday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 15-2 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by ten runs or more this season.
Levi Gardner was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Burchill, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Everett Gardner was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Saegertown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cochranton only posted an OBP of .333.
Saegertown's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Jamestown, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-15.
Jamestown might still be hurting after the 17-0 loss they got from Saegertown when the teams last played back in April. Can the Muskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
