The Xavier Knights waltzed into Saturday's matchup with four straight wins but they left with five. They took down St. Joseph-by-the-Sea 24-7. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Xavier also won the last time the pair played back in October.
Xavier got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mehdi Merah out in front who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown. Merah was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Kull, who rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown.
Xavier has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for St. Joseph-by-the-Sea, they bumped their record down to 4-6 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Xavier will face off against Moore Catholic at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Joseph-by-the-Sea does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
