The Ralston Rams's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 72-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Malcolm. While losing is never fun, Ralston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 178th, while Malcolm is ranked 46th).
Ralston's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Deacon Courtney, who scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and six assists, and Davinchi Gray who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Winner Mutoke was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Even though they lost, Ralston were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Malcolm got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Carson Frank out in front who scored 27 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Frank has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Meyer, who scored 26 points.
Ralston's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-11. As for Malcolm, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ralston will square off against Wahoo at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Malcolm, they will head out on the road to square off against Freeman on Tuesday.
