The Niwot Cougars will face off against the Broomfield Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Niwot has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with five straight losses, while Broomfield will come in with five straight victories.
It was a proper cat-fight when Niwot faced off against Erie on Tuesday. The Cougars came up short against the Tigers, falling 8-1.
Niwot saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaige Kennedy, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Broomfield was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They blew past Centaurus 13-3. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.
Ethan Zufall looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Daniel Stapleton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of JC Smith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Broomfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Centaurus only posted an OBP of .417.
Broomfield's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Niwot, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Niwot has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Broomfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
