On Tuesday, the Chaparral Wolverines faced the Douglas County Huskies in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Chaparral came out on top in a nail-biter against Douglas County and snuck past 65-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Chaparral found their leader in underclassman Christian Williams, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Brodie Mason, who scored 13 points.
Douglas County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Nettles, who scored 23 points along with four steals. Nettles has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reilly Guerra, who scored 14 points along with nine assists and five rebounds.
Chaparral has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Douglas County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-5.
Chaparral will be playing at home against Legend at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Legend will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Chaparral is ranked eighth). As for Douglas County, they will head out on the road to square off against Castle View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Castle View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Thursday.
