Baseball Recap: Denbigh Comes Up Short

Denbigh lost against Gloucester last Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Patriots fell 9-5 to the Dukes. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Russel Clark was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

Clark wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Foote, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Luis Caez-Rodriquez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Denbigh's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Gloucester, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Denbigh will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hampton at 4:30 p.m. on the 15th. After both having extra time off, Gloucester and Warwick will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:30 p.m. on the 15th. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Dukes 3.8, the Raiders 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
