Rio Rancho is 1-9 against La Cueva since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Rams will host the Bears at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Rio Rancho is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Piedra Vista, who was ranked 11th at the time (Rio Rancho was ranked 20th). The Rams came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 9-6 on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, La Cueva entered their tilt with Santa Fe on Saturday with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. They blew past the Demons 12-1. Considering the Bears have won 12 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Alyssa Hunt spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brooklyn Eardley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Hailey Silva, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: La Cueva kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 13 consecutive games.
The victory got Rio Rancho back to even at 12-12. As for La Cueva, their win bumped their record up to 15-7.
