Softball Game Preview: Westside Rams vs. Southside Tigers

For the second straight game, Westside will face off against Southside. The Rams will head out on the road to face off against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Westside has four straight wins, Southside has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Westside is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Southside a 22-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Madison Gray made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Ryann Sanders was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Anslie Blair, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Westside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .875. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Westside's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Southside, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Westside has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .510. However, it's not like Southside struggles in that department as they've averaged .547. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
