The Decatur Central Hawks will square off against the Noblesville Millers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Decatur Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Decatur Central fell victim to Plainfield and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 11-0 to the Quakers. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Hawks' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Decatur Central got a good showing from Reese Chapman, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Chapman has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
Meanwhile, Noblesville had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Pendleton Heights on Thursday by a score of 7-5 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
Addison Retzinger tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk).
At the plate, Brookelyn Grayson was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 matches. Addi Emmerson was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Noblesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pendleton Heights only posted an OBP of .300.
With the loss, Decatur Central broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-5. As for Noblesville, their record is now 10-4.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Decatur Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Noblesville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Decatur Central suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Noblesville when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
