Hawthorne and P.K. Yonge are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Hawthorne Hornets just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave at 7:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Hopefully Hawthorne focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday.
On Thursday, Hawthorne humbled Bradford with a 58-18 victory. With Hawthorne ahead 38-10 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
CJ Ingram was a one-man wrecking crew for Hawthorne as he scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Rollerson, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, P.K. Yonge's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Santa Fe by a score of 63-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Joel Washington, who scored 18 points along with five assists and five rebounds. He also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Jantzen Griffin, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Hawthorne and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for P.K. Yonge, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
Hawthorne couldn't quite finish off P.K. Yonge when the teams last played back in February and fell 47-45. Can Hawthorne avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
