The Nansemond River Warriors will challenge the Great Bridge Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Nansemond River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
If Nansemond River beats Great Bridge with 18 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Warriors put the hurt on King's Fork with a sharp 18-5 win two weeks ago. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.
Logan Greenwood made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Greenwood was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Demetria Burton was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Madyx Fiero was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Nansemond River lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Great Bridge came out on top against Currituck County on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Wildcats walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Knights.
Bailey Bliven spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on LB Scott, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Ferrell, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Great Bridge is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Nansemond River, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Nansemond River hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Great Bridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Nansemond River suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Great Bridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
