The Sandia Prep Sundevils will head out to take on the Ruidoso Warriors at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Sandia Prep put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. They blew past East Mountain 20-6. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 25, 2023, but that streak is no more.
The team relied heavily on Ozzi Rockey, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. Mary Otero was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Sandia Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Ruidoso gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against East Mountain as they made off with a 16-1 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Talyn Ramos was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Angelina Duran, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Ruidoso and bumps their season record up to 18-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Sandia Prep, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-16.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sandia Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .558. However, it's not like Ruidoso struggles in that department as they've averaged .571. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sandia Prep suffered a grim 21-4 defeat to Ruidoso in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Sundevils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
