Downers Grove North is 8-2 against the Mustangs since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Downers Grove North Trojans are on the road again and plays the Downers Grove South Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Downers Grove North didn't have too much trouble with the Panthers on the road as they won 53-37. Given Downers Grove North's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Panthers are ranked 350th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kaitlyn Parker continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 18 points along with five assists and three steals. She hasn't dropped below 15 points for seven straight games. Ann Stephens was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Downers Grove South put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 53-25 victory over Proviso East. Downers Grove South pushed the score to 39-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Pirates had little chance of recovering from.
Downers Grove North has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 20 of their last 21 games, which provided a nice bump to their 27-3 record this season. As for Downers Grove South, they pushed their record up to 17-12 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Downers Grove North strolled past the Mustangs when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 43-25. The rematch might be a little tougher for Downers Grove North since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
