After a string of 11 wins, the Regents Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of The Covenant by a score of 44-41. Regents was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Despite the loss, Regents had strong showings from Morris Hoffman, who scored seven points along with seven assists and seven rebounds, and David Keppel, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Hoffman is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of David Shonka, who scored five points.
Regents' defeat ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-2. As for The Covenant, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Regents will challenge the Griffins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Redeemer Classical is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for The Covenant, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Flames at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. Averaging 65.53 points so far this season, Eastern Mennonite's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Eagles better be ready for a challenge.
