Basketball Recap: Ava Freeborough Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Hubbard

Boardman won the last time they faced Hubbard and things went their way on Monday too. The Boardman Spartans took down the Hubbard Eagles 52-34.

Boardman's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Freeborough led the charge by putting up 13 points and seven steals. That's the most steals Freeborough has posted since back in December of 2023. Jocelyn Torres was another key player, posting 11 points along with six boards and four steals.

Boardman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hubbard only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Hubbard lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Claire Murphy, who posted 11 points. Murphy continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalyn Manzo, who put up five points.

Boardman's record is now 3-5. As for Hubbard, they dropped their record down to 4-5 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Boardman didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 48-41 win against Walsh Jesuit on the 27th. As for Hubbard, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 71-42 defeat against Salem on the 30th.
