Elgin is 6-1 against Ridgedale since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Comets will welcome the Rockets at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Elgin's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Crestline as they made off with a 7-0 win. Considering the Comets have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ridgedale). They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over Vanlue on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.
Ayden Salyer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Salyer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Ridgedale is undefeated when Salyer posts two or more runs, but 0-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brody Mawer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Hutchinson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Ridgedale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vanlue only posted a batting average of .067.
Elgin's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Ridgedale, their victory bumped their record up to 3-8.
Elgin took their win against Ridgedale when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
