Ashe County is a perfect 3-0 against Surry Central since March of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Huskies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Golden Eagles at 12:30 p.m. Ashe County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Ashe County beat Watauga 10-6.
Maleah Lovell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Lovell was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Nadilyn Eason was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ava Roten, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Ashe County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
South Stokes hit Surry Central with a five-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Golden Eagles lost 12-2 to the Sauras.
Surry Central saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Cruise, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Ashe County pushed their record up to 10-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Surry Central, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
Ashe County came out on top in a nail-biter against Surry Central in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 4-2. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
