The Moreno Valley Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Valley View Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Moreno Valley will be strutting in after a victory while Valley View will be coming in after a loss.
Even though Moreno Valley has not done well against San Bernardino recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Moreno Valley strolled past San Bernardino with points to spare, taking the game 65-46.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Jamall Thompson and George McEwen. Thompson had a great game and dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Meanwhile, McEwen did his best for the losing side, scoring 17 points.
Meanwhile, Valley View unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to Temescal Canyon 50-45. While losing is never fun, Valley View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 394th, while Temescal Canyon is ranked 177th).
Despite the defeat, Valley View saw an underclassman step up: Charles Knight scored 16 points along with three steals and two blocks. Knight has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jalyn Talbert, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds.
The victory got Moreno Valley back to even at 10-10. As for Valley View, they bumped their record down to 12-10 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Moreno Valley came up short against Valley View in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 54-48. Can Moreno Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
