5A Region III District 20 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Westside moved up to 306 from 349 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region III District 20. The Wolves were able to make move up by besting Madison 23-0.
Lamar extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Bellaire, 40-7. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
Darrell Colbert put up the best numbers through the air as Lamar defeated the Cardinals. He finished with a total of 13 completions for 284 yards and four touchdowns. Colbert's favorite target this week was Shelby Walker, who caught two passes for 86 yards.
Loren Easly was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 88 yards on 14 carries as Westside topped the Marlins. Xavier Holman also contributed to the rushing game with 41 yards on the ground.
Aleman was the best wideout in 5A Region III District 20 this week as Mark Byrd's team bested Madison. Aleman tallied six receptions for 137 yards. Cameron Shepherd helped Westside's passing attack out by catching three balls for 42 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Colbert of Tom Nolen's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1530. He has also thrown 18 touchdowns. On the ground, the Wolves' Holman has rushed for 904 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Bobby Hartzog. The Westside star has 26 catches for 510 yards.
Westside's Holman needs only 96 yards against Bellaire next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Trey Sissom's team takes on the Wolves. As it stands, the Cardinals are in third, while Westside is in second.
The Redskins took down Bellaire 40-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Colbert ran for 31 yards in the win.
