Wilson Prep and Rocky Mount Prep are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Wilson Prep Tigers take on the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Wilson Prep's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Rocky Mount Prep has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Wilson Prep is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 75-67 win over Southern Nash last Saturday. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Firebirds are ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Paris Best and MyAngel Brimage were among the main playmakers for Wilson Prep as the former went 10 for 21 on her way to 31 points and seven assists and the latter went 10 of 15 en route to 25 points in addition to six rebounds and five blocks. Best's afternoon made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiden Brown, who went 5 for 10 en route to 11 points.
They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Wilson Prep was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, Rocky Mount Prep hadn't done well against Southeast Halifax recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Friday. Rocky Mount Prep escaped with a win against Southeast Halifax by the margin of a single free throw, 41-40.
Rocky Mount Prep's win came from a few key players Wilson Prep will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jada Silver, who posted 14 points and four steals. She has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mykhalah Lynch, who scored six points along with 13 boards and three steals.
Wilson Prep's victory bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Rocky Mount Prep, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Wilson Prep hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59 points per game. It's a different story for Rocky Mount Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 31.7 points. The only thing between Wilson Prep and another offensive beatdown is Rocky Mount Prep. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Wilson Prep against Rocky Mount Prep in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 55-19 victory. Will Wilson Prep repeat their success, or does Rocky Mount Prep have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
