Softball Recap: Sunset Wins Going Away Against Westview

Sunset barely beat Westview the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Apollos were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Wildcats on Wednesday. Considering the Apollos have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Sydney Arnold spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sunset got a massive performance out of Penn Whitefield, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Whitefield a new career-high. Claire Townsend was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Sunset moved to 13-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Westview, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-11.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Sunset will face off against rival Beaverton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Westview is set to challenge their familiar foe Southridge at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
