On Friday, The Cape Henlopen Vikings faced the Smyrna Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cape Henlopen enjoyed a cozy 21-6 victory over Smyrna. The win made it back-to-back wins for Cape Henlopen.
Maurki James continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 158 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. James is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Smyrna to a paltry 208 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Cape Henlopen's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Quardell Richards and his two sacks.
Cape Henlopen's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Smyrna, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Cape Henlopen will head out on the road to face off against Dover at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Delaware (Dover is ranked fourth, while Cape Henlopen is ranked seventh). As for Smyrna, they will be playing at home against St. Georges Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
