The Warren Warriors suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They fell just short of Jay by a score of 51-49. While losing is never fun, Warren can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 591st, while Jay is ranked 163rd).
Despite the loss, Warren still got an impressive performance from Devin Petersen, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Petersen continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Dre Jones was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Elijah Baldwin was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds for Jay. Baldwin hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 13 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden Guillen, who scored 14 points.
Warren's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 8-20. As for Jay, their win bumped their record up to 18-6.
Warren will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Harlan at 6:00 p.m. As for Jay, they will head out on the road to square off against Stevens at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Stevens and Jay are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
